It’s been about ten minutes since Dan Swanö started a new band, but fans of the Swedish multi-instrumentalist and producer need not fret: Swanö has now launched Witherscape, a “stunning new atmospheric and progressive dark metal outfit,” with Ragnar Widerberg. I’m not familiar with Widerberg, but his name is “Ragnar,” which is awesome, and he has a wicked ‘stache, so I’m guessing he’s probably an okay dude. Plus, Dan Swanö vouches for him, so there’s that.

ANYWAY, Witherscape have now released their first single, “Astrid Falls,” which you can stream below. It’s not really my cup of tea — I’m more of a fan of Swanö’s work for heavier bands, like Ribspreader and Bloodbath — but I have a feeling that some of you melodic prog dorks are gonna lap this shit up. Listen:

Witherscape’s debut album, The Inheritance, comes out July 29 in Europe and August 6 in North America via Century Media.
