We Are

I somehow totally missed this when it happened, but in April, Ray Holroyd — British music journalist, lecturer, and founder of the charity-minded label Revolution Harmony Records — announced that he had recruited Serj Tankian, Devin Townsend, and Ihsahn to appear on “We Are,” a song which, according to Metal Insider, “is dedicated to Nelson Mandela and the memory of Lucky Dube (viewed as the Bob Marley of South Africa).” Awesome, right?

And it gets even awesomer: all proceeds made from the sale of the song will go to Buskaid, a charity that provides free instruments and music lessons to South African children.

While the track won’t be available for sale until July 18 — Nelson Mandela day — you can now stream it via the below lyric video. Not being familiar with any music previously written by Holroyd, I feared that the song might not actually be very good, so much as just loaded with cool metal dudes. But it actually IS really good — catchy and epic, with great vocal interplay between Tankian and Ihsahn, and a killer guitar solo by Mr. Townsend. Enjoy:
