Mustein Best of 2013 So Far

Maybe it’s my memory, but it’s been ages since I was this excited about music. It’s the sheer variety of things – my top releases have come from my favorites as well as from artists of whom I had been entirely ignorant, and from every corner of the metal genre-sphere. I’m not looking forward to eventually paring this down, especially with releases from inimitable artists to still look forward to. Try to give every album on this list a listen; your ears will thank you.

Altar of Plagues – Teethed Glory and Injury (Profound Lore)

The Amenta – Flesh is Heir (Listenable)
Botanist – IV: Mandragora (The Flenser)
Cortez – Phoebus (Throatruiner)
Cult of Luna – Vertikal (Indie)
Deafheaven – Sunbather (Deathwish)
The Dillinger Escape Plan – One of Us Is the Killer (Sumerian/Party Smasher)
Ending Tyranny – Perpetual Greed (Unsigned)
Hacride – Back to Where You’ve Never Been (Indie)
Inter Arma – Sky Burial (Relapse)
Intronaut – Habitual Levitations (Instilling Words With Tones) (Century Media)
Kalmah – Seventh Swamphony (Spinefarm)
Katalepsy – Autopsychosis (Unique Leader)
The Monolith Deathcult – Tetragrammaton (Season of Mist)
Nero di Marte – Nero di Marte (Prosthetic)
The Ocean – Pelagial (Pelagic/Metal Blade)
Okular – Sexforce (Regenerative Productions)
Rotting Christ – Κατά_τον_δαίμονα_εαυτού (Season of Mist)
Shai Hulud – Reach Beyond the Sun (Metal Blade)
Soilwork – The Living Infinite (Nuclear Blast)
Svart Crown – Profane (Listenable)
Voices – From The Human Forest Create A Fuge Of Imaginary Rain (Candlelight)
Wormed – Exodromos (Willowtip)

And do yourselves all a favor and check out the new Boards of Canada album, Tomorrow’s Harvest. Shit is dank; it’s the darkest thing they’ve released yet, and is a turbulent, intricate work that should be appreciated by even the tr00est of metalheads.
