New Black Sabbath Not Doing it For Ya? Then Take a Look Through the Black Prism

Black Prism - Satan's Country

Black Sabbath fans have been left with two choices. We can either a) keep complaining about the overhyped pile of slightly-above-satisfactory riffs and embarrassing lyrics that is 13, or b) we can embrace the great onslaught of today’s Sabbath-worshipping bands who are doing early Sabbath better than Sabbath currently are. I don’t know about you, but I’ve chosen to do the latter.

“Satan’s Country,” a track from L.A.’s new skateboarding, chopper-riding, acid-rock/psychedelic doom band Black Prism, is everything a self-respecting fan of Vol. 4 or Master of Reality should love. It’s gritty, it’s lo-fi, and it’s full of classically evil doom riffs and wailing vocals. The track comes from the band’s debut 7” of the same name, out on August 31 on Easy Rider Records. Black Prism give delightfully strange interviews; they’re not about to insult your intelligence by listing their obvious influences, making me much more likely to read them.
