Stephen Colbert Cops To Liking St. Anger on Metallica’s Colbert Report Appearance

Metallica Colbert Report

… or, as it turns out, just the album cover. I wonder if he knows that St. Anger is an ongoing joke amongst metal fans, if one of his writers advised him of such, or if he just happened upon it by accident because of the “anger” theme.

Always the exaggerator, Colbert gives Metallica a gentle ribbing for being old and… um, being old… in the four-minute interview segment immediately prior to the band’s performance of “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and “Master of Puppets.” The members of Metallica barely slip a word in edgewise and the interview basically comes off as a Colbert solo routine, but it still ends up being hilarious. Colbert for prez!

It’s definitely weird seeing Metallica on live television. According to James the last time the band did live TV was on Saturday Night Live, which the Interhole tells me was in 1997. You’d think that the biggest metal band in the world would’ve done the late night shows to promote the two albums they’ve released since then… but nope, kinda hard to believe.
