Video of Pop Star Lorde Covering Rainbow’s “Man On The Silver Mountain” as a 12-Year-Old

Lorde

Pop star Lorde is tearing up the charts with her hit song “Royals,” a ditty so catchy and atypical of modern day pop music that a few metalheads may even cop to liking it. Here it is:

As it turns out, Lorde (real name: Ella Yelich-O’Connor) has a bit of a metal past. As a 12-year-old, back in 2009 (holy crap, she’s young!!) in New Zealand, she performed Rainbow’s “Man On The Silver Mountain” with her band at a Battle of the Bands competition at school. There are actually two singers on stage, but Lorde is the one in the leather jacket. While she hadn’t quite developed Ronnie James Dio’s pipes yet, this rendition of Rainbow’s classic is not bad at all for a bunch of 12 year olds! Maybe there’s a cover of “Holy Diver” in her near future that’ll rival Killswitch Engage’s famous rendition.
