And the Producer of the New Mastodon Album is…

…Nick Raskulinecz!

Nick RaskulineczYou’re probably already familiar with Raskulinecz’s work, given that he’s one of the the most in-demand rock producers out there right now. But in case you don’t, allow me to share some of the metal-related highlights of his resumé with you now: he’s produced and/or mixed albums and/or singles for Alice in Chains, Deftones, Foo Fighters, Danzig, Queens of the Stone Age, Velvet Revolver, Stone Sour, Shadows Fall, The Mars Volta… the list goes on and on and on. So yeah dude clearly has his shit together.

It’s worth noting that this will be, to the best of my knowledge at least, the first time Raskulinecz and Mastodon have worked together: RemissionLeviathan, and Blood Mountain were all done with Matt Bayles, Crack the Skye was produced by Brendan O’Brien, and The Hunter was a Mike Elizondo joint. Their sound has certainly evolved quite a bit over the past decade, and I have to think that working with so many different venerable producers has something to do with that. It will certainly be interesting to see where they go with Raskulinecz behind the boards.

One way or the other, it looks like we get a new Mastodon album in 2014, presumably followed by lots and lots and lots of touring! That’s never bad news.
