Lemmy is Making a Solo Album

It’s good to know that Lemmy Kilmister’s health problems haven’t put a damper on his productivity. Although the legendary bassist/vocalist was forced to cancel a spate of Motörhead shows this year in light of the fact that he’s now a diabetic with a defibrillator who recently suffered a unspecified hematoma, Metal Injection says he’s been working on a solo album since 2004 — and he recently told Revolver that he’s planning to actually, like, finish it soon:

“No, I ain’t done yet with the music. After I get better, we’re gonna try to tour again, and if I can’t do that full-on, I want to do another album with [the rockabilly band] Head Cat, and, of course, I want to do a couple more Motörhead records. But the next thing I’ve got coming out is my solo album, which is almost done. I still want to do a track with [Skunk Anasie vocalist] Skin before I put it out. There are two tracks with the Reverend Horton Heat, two with The Damned, a track with Dave Grohl [Foo Fighters, Nirvana], and a track withJoan Jett. Right now we’re thinking of calling it False Teeth for the Deaf. It’s all just great rock and roll, that’s the only way to describe it. Some of it is bluesy and some isn’t. It’s not Motörhead, but obviously there are elements in common.”

That would all be in addition to some songs he said he recorded with Skew Siskin when he first revealed that he was working on the solo album almost ten years ago.

So, that obviously all sounds great, and I hope it comes out for really real sometime in the not-too-distant future. I’m very intrigued to hear if Lemmy speaks the truth when he says it doesn’t sound like Motörhead; he’s obviously done a ton of writing for that band over the years, and their sound has been both very well-defined and almost completely static. So it’s hard to imagine him jamming on anything that sounds dissimilar; even his past collaborations with other musicians (Grohl’s Probot, Slash, etc.) have sounded like Motörhead (admittedly, those tracks were probably written with Lemmy in mind). We’ll see, I guess!
