Throwdown - IntoleranceI know I tease Throwdown a bunch ’cause their Pantera fetish was often even more apparent than most bands’ Pantera fetishes, but once upon a time they actually made some really fun albums, and, certainly, they put on a good show. It’s been so long since I’ve heard anything about them, though (their last album was Deathless in 2009) that I basically forgot about them.

And then I got a reminder today in the form of this press release:

Legendary Southern California metal act, THROWDOWN, are set to release Intolerance on January 21, 2014. The new LP will be their first since Deathless was released back in 2009. Frontman Dave Peters weighs in on the announcement:

“Completing this record felt great in so many respects, most important of which was the opportunity to finally give longtime supporters of the band this music that I’ve had swirling around in my head over the past four years.

“The variety of people from different places and scenes, who have found the band through vastly different avenues over the past 15 or so years, will each get into it for their own unique reasons I think.

“And for those who think it’s junk, it’s only about 28 minutes they have to regret.”

Four years is a lifetime in metal, and once-popular bands sometimes find themselves struggling to win their audience back after such a long time away (just ask A Life Once Lost). First and foremost, of course, I’m curious to hear this album, but I’m also really curious to see if there’s a fanbase waiting for Throwdown’s return or if time has passed them by.

We’ll find out in January, I s’pose…
