Cynic Return with a Mighty “Lion’s Roar”

Cynic - Kindly Bent to Free Us

Guitar World has debuted “The Lion’s Roar,” the first single from Cynic’s new album, Kindly Bent to Free Us, and to the surprise of exactly no one, it’s excellent. Sean Reinert’s drums, Sean Malone’s bass, Paul Masvidal’s guitars… ugh. So good it’s gross.

The song is also really, really upbeat, in a way that I would argue is unique even to a band like Cynic, who have never exactly been all gloom n’ doom. Will the metal community, whose collective wardrobe consists exclusively of items that are the colorless-color-black, be game to hold hands and celebrate life instead of fantasizing about all the terrible things they’d like to do to the women who won’t sleep with them? For all of our sakes, I certainly hope so.

Check out “The Lion’s Roar” below. Kindly Bent to Free Us, comes out February 14 on Season of Mist.
