Oh, Lorde: Slipknot’s Sid Wilson Remixes “Royals”

Lorde vs Sid Wilson

While some of the remaining members of Slipknot are hard at work writing the band’s new album, others apparently have time on their hands — like turntablist Sid Wilson, a.k.a. DJ Starscream, who recently created this HORRENDOUS remix of “Royals,” the breakthrough hit from seventeen-year-old New Zealander singer/songwriter Lorde. As is too-often the case the remixes, Wilson basically took the original song and added a bunch of unnecessary bells and whistles (I find the rave beats to be particularly irritating), doing away with the song’s elegant simplicity (which is, I assure you, a big part of the reason the track works in the first place). Maybe if I was rolling my balls off right now this wouldn’t sound so awful to me, but I doubt it; I really don’t think there’s any drug in the world which could make Wilson’s remix fly.

Of course, you’re free to disagree with me.

Fun fact: Lorde was about three when Slipknot’s self-titled debut was released. I wonder if she even knows who they are, or when/if she hears this she’ll just be massively, colossally confused?
