Impure Wilhelmina - Black Honey

I checked out Terrorizer‘s stream of Impure Wilhelmina’s Black Honey based on an endorsement from Fuck the Facts’ Mel Mongeon (got all that?), and I am now hooked. Terrorizer describes the Swiss outfit as “post-hardcore,” which is basically accurate, I guess — they wouldn’t seem  that out of place on tour with a band like Buried Inside — but the band’s appeal could actually be somewhat wider than that tag might imply. The band’s soaringly moody music is melodious as often as it is heavy. And guitarist/vocalist Michael Schindl never screams… nor are his clean vocals drowned in a blinding sheen of auto-tune. They’re actually kind nasally, like if Morrisey or Robert Smith were fronting a much heavier band (not that Impure Wilhelmina are that heavy… they’re just way heavier than The Smiths or The Cure). They don’t always sound 100% perfect, but they always sound human, which is certainly a nice change of pace.

ANYWAY, point is, I’m really digging Black Honey, and I hope you do, too. Stream it below! It’s out February 14 on Hummus Records.
