Here’s some unexpected, but not at all unpleasant, news: drummer Jon “Charn” Rice, who left Job for a Cowboy in October, has joined Scorpion Child, replacing Shawn Alvear. We’d heard he had been touring with SC, but now he’s an officially official member for really real.

Rice is an amazing drummer and I’m stoked he found another steady gig… but talk about a change of pace! JFAC and Scorpion Child have about as much in common as Repulsion and The Black Crowes. No more blast beats for Charn. Which I guess makes sense. Why do the same thing twice, right?

Here’s video of Charn performing with Scorpion Child on last month’s Shiprocked:

In related news, Scorpion Child have also parted ways with guitarist Tom Frank. But since he wasn’t replaced by a former member of a death metal band I really like, I do not especially care.
