Video: Periphery’s Misha Mansoor Shares Guitar Recording Tips

0

Back when Misha Mansoor was actively penning his Gear Geek column for MetalSucks he’d get a lot of questions about how he tracks his guitars, and even once wrote a piece that discussed that particular subject in depth. Now he’s gone and one-upped (two-upped?) that column by a longshot: he’s released a 16-minute video that basically functions as a “how to” guide for recording guitars in a home studio.

Misha covers everything from the gear he uses to get his guitar signal into the computer, proper input settings, the pros and cons of double and quadruple tracking, and some simple EQ tips to get your mix sounding right, and he uses a simple riff that he records in real-time to demonstrate everything on the fly. If you’re a metal player and an aspiring home recording technician this a must-watch video, so stop with #boringinstagramweek or whatever you’re doing and give a spin.
