Devils Knot Movie Poster

It’s been awhile since we heard anything about Devil’s Knot, the non-documentary feature film about The West Memphis Three from writer/director Atom Egoyan. But the film, which stars not one but two Oscar winners even your grandmother probably loves (that would be Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon) is now complete and will be released in just a couple of months… which means it’s time for some coming attractions!

Granted, the trailer focuses on how the West Memphis Three were considered “freakish” without getting into the specifics of their love for metal. And most of the extreme music community probably isn’t chomping at the bit to go see the stars of Mamma Mia! and Miscellaneous Romantic Comedy Model 78-C in anything. But I think we should all keep our eye on the potential value of this movie — which is that is will probably appeal to a far wider audience than just us metal fans. It is not, in other words, for us. It’s for the people who do wanna see a movie featuring Firth and Witherspoon. Who are the exact people that probably do assume all metalheads are murdering satanists. So if the flick gets through to even just a few of those folks, well… that’s its value.

Check out the trailer below. The movie comes out May 9.
