Tom G Warrior Turns Down Cash

In case there weren’t enough reasons to love Tom G. Warrior: he tells The Quietus that the organizers of Wacken recently offered him €100,000 — a little more $139,000 — to play a one hour Celtic Frost set with Martin Eric Ain and any other two musicians of their choice. So, naturally, ol’ Tommy Boy is taking the money, playing the one hour set, and then taking a nice vacation someplace warm, right?

Not so fast! Says Mr. Warrior:

“And my response to them? The same as the one I gave you: It’s a joke. So the answer’s no. I invested an immeasurable amount of time, creativity and personal money into resurrecting Celtic Frost, and in the end it ended really badly. I don’t regret that I did it, but I’m not keen to set myself up for yet another huge disappointment and have it all end again in such a huge crash… I’m not keen to shoot myself in the face again. I would’ve loved to continue it, but it was impossible.”

I’m sure this news will break the heart of many a Celtic Frost fan, but a) you gotta respect Tom G. Warrior for having a little integrity in a business that generally has none, and b) the new Triptykon album, Melana Chasmata, is SO FUCKING GOOD that Celtic Frost fan really has any right to complain at this point. Really. SO GOOD. Like, I love Celtic Frost as much as the next dude, but I don’t think I’d trade Melana Chasmata for one hour of Celtic Frost. No sir.

In fact, you now have an opportunity to get some sense of just HOW GOOD this album is: the band has unveiled two new cuts from Melana, “Breathing” and “Boleskine” house. They are both awesome. Listen listen listen:

Melana Chasmata comes out April 15 via Century Media Records/Prowling Death Records Ltd. Did I mention that it’s SO FUCKING GOOD???
