Unsigned and Unholy: Secret Cutter, Wovoka, Kaunis Kuolematon

Oh, fuck yes, Secret Cutter are so heavy! They’re taking what bands like Nails, Black Breath and The Body are doing and somehow making it ever more visceral, even more intense. I could do without the yelped hardcore-style vocals, but that’s probably just me. Here’s their entire self-titled record that just came out in February:

Wovoka‘s song “Sleep Eater” reminds me of The Ocean in their heavier, doomier, sludgier moments (like the final tracks on Pelagial), right down to the more introspective, softer moments. I like! Would love to see this concept extrapolated over an entire album’s worth of material.

Kaunis Kuolematon are from Finland and, well, they sure sound like it. It’s that Finnish death/doom sound, you know? Which I can never seem to get enough of. Those growls make me want to cower in a corner (in a good way), and the short instrumental breaks provide a brief respite. It’s all about dynamic. Kylmä Kaunis Maailma comes out on April 25th.
