henry derek leaves scar the martyr

Oy. These are not fantastic times for Joey Jordison — at least, not insofar as keeping bandmates around goes. First, he parted way with Slipknot (he says he was fired) in December, and now Scar the Martyr vocalist Henry Derek has announced via Facebook that his contents are no longer under pressure:

“I’m officially parting ways with Scar The Martyr due to personal differences, artistic direction, business decisions, etc, etc. I’ve given it a year of my life and now it’s time to move on. Many thanks to all of the fans & friends that have shown their support. Furthermore, I will continue making music in many forms as well as pursuing a new band with King (God Seed) & Jeff Friedl (A Perfect Circle) My very best wishes to STM and their future success. Sincerely – hd”

Meanwhile, shock of shocks, the band says Derek didn’t quit — he was fired:

“To address the recent Scar The Marty news out there and make sure all the facts are straight, Scar The Martyr has parted ways with Henry, not the other way around. With all that’s been going on of late we have been forced to take a very careful look at how we are moving forward and with there being some creative and personal differences it made sense to move on without Henry.

“We have been very focused on new Scar The Martyr material and we couldn’t be more excited with how the music is coming out. We are in the process of looking for a new singer and will have news on the search very soon.

“We appreciate all the support from our fans and we can’t wait to share the next phase of STM with all of you. We wish Henry best of luck going forward.

“Thanks,
Scar the Martyr”

Thing is, I really don’t think this matters, at least not where StM’s future success is concerned. Jordison is clearly the star of the band, but even guitarists Kris Norris (ex-Darkest Hour) and Jed Simon (ex-Strapping Young Lad) have to be bigger draws for fans than Derek was. I’m sure finding another vocalist who sounds just like Corey Taylor can’t be that hard, can it?
