Today in Death Metal: New Videos from Whitechapel, Hour of Penance and Son of Aurelius

Whitechapel just linked up with Revocation and Rivers of Nihil to begin their tour, and, in a couple more days they’ll connect with DevilDriver, Carnifex and Fit For an Autopsy to begin this spring’s massive death metal tour that you absolutely cannot miss. Perfect timing for the release of a new video that combines beautifully shot footage from several shows on a recent mini-tour they did to and from New England Metalfest. If this doesn’t get you hyped up for their tour, nothing will:

Next up we have Hour of Penance’s new video for “Reforging the Crowns,” which takes the song’s name quite literally by taking a priest and… well, just watch. Regicide is out now and streaming in full over at Decibel; our own Kip W. liked it very, very much!

Finally, not really death metal but undeniably rad band Son of Aurelius — whose first new track in four years, “Clouded Panes,” we premiered last week — have another new song called “Under a Western Sun,” which they’ve released in “anti-lyric video” form. I love the concept of SoA spoofing lyric vids; while they can sometimes be interesting, I often find myself clicking “play” then switching back to whatever other tab or application I was working in and just listening to the tune. Under A Western Sun is out June 3rd.
