sean-malone-cynic-tourWell, this is a pleasant surprise! Gear Gods reports that Cynic bassist/Chapman Sticker/token straight guy will be touring with the band this summer for the first time in two decades. Says drummer Sean Reinert via Facebook:

“Looking forward to playing these shows with Sean Malone on bass/stick while Brandon [Brandon, touring bassist] enjoys fatherhood. The last time we shared the stage with Sean was almost 20 years ago at the Limelight in NYC (June 24th 1994).”

Wow. The Limelight isn’t even a music venue anymore — it’s “New York City’s Most Exciting Shopping Destination.” So, yeah, it’s been some time Malone joined these guys on the road. Even finding a decent high-res photo of the guy is difficult. But he’s obviously an amazing musician — just check out this recent video of him playing “Veil of Maya.” Siqqqqqqq. So while it’s not as though we’d ever miss a Cynic show, we now have extra incentive to attend.
