Ace Frehley - Space Invader

I never really paid that much attention to Ace Frehley’s solo career, so I can’t really compare his new single, “You Give Me a Feelin’”, with the rest of his body of work. I can say this, though: even without Paul or Gene on vocals, this sounds, to my ears at least, much more like KISS Klassic than anything on Monster did. That album sounds like it was made by dudes who have listened to a lot of KISS. But with this song, it’s like, “Oh, this guy used to be in KISS? Yeah no shit.” Which is kind of surprising, given that The Law Firm of Simmons & Staley actually wrote way more of KISS’ famous songs than Frehley did. But however and whyever it happened, it happened — Space Ace has out KISSed KISS. He even got Ken Kelly, the guy who did the album art for Destroyer and Love Gun, to do the cover of his new record, Space Invader. This may end up being the best KISS album KISS never recorded… hell, it may end up being the best KISS album since Revenge.
