Chelsea Grin Continue to Hold Tightly Onto the Envelope On New Track “Playing with Fire”

Chelsea Grin - Safety FirstRecently, there was a bit of an online scuffle between our friends at Metal Injection and guitarist Jason Richardson after MI noted some similarities between a new song from Richardson’s current band, Chelsea Grin, and his former band, Born of Osiris. Richardson says he didn’t write either song, so any remsemblance between the two tracks are probably just due to the fact that there are a batrillionjillionillion bands that have written a gazmillionbillionillion songs that all sound like this. Trying to differentiate them all from one another isn’t just like trying to pass a blind taste test with Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and RC Cola — it’s like trying to pass a blind taste test with Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola, and Coca-Cola.

In fact, I’m not even sure I can tell the difference between this new Chelsea Grin single, “Don’t Play with Matches,” with the band’s last single, “Angels Will Pray and There’s No Such Thing as Demons,” let alone the difference between a Chelsea Grin song and a song by any other irritationcore band.

But maybe you can do better than me. Maybe your ears are more finely tuned to the subtle intricacies of hemorrhoidcore than mine are. Stream “Never Run with Scissors” below and find out. Chelsea Grin’s new album, Safety First, comes out July 8 via Artery Recordings/Razor & Tie.
