Best of 2014 So Far

There’s a belief that art is at its best in bad times. That is, the greater the injustices and pain, then the more there is to express and passion to express it. At such times, emotions and compulsions are stronger, as are the urges to seize control of your own vibe. So, maybe expressions are purer and fearless on one side, and more fanciful and surreal on the other. Something like that! lol Anyway, that theory implies that our times are being perceived as bad, for the albums listed below range from awesome to transcendent — and represent more than simply the “best” of 2014’s first half. It’s not just their number (22 albums!) but the feet-planted certainty of their statements (even the least adventurous of them). If ranked, at least four are tied for the year’s best album, then ten split second place, and the rest nab the bronze. U jam?
