wayne and garth schwing haunted ew irI have this awful-wonderful feeling that it’s going to be pretty much impossible to make a “best of” list at the conclusion of 2014. It’s already been a solid year, but the back half is, like, totally choked with potentially-awesome releases. Unless a bunch of these bands totally blow it, figuring out which ones are “better” than the others is gonna be a fool’s errand.

Here are three just-announced releases which could very well be part of that errand:

The Haunted, Exit WoundsThe Haunted - Exit WoundsThe Haunted’s first full-length with their new-old line-up (note the clever title!) arrives August 25 in Europe and September 2 in North America via Century Media. In January, the band released a three-song maxi-single, Eye of the Storm, which was generally well-received; now they just need to prove they can write seven-eleven more good songs, and maybe everyone will shut the fuck up about Unseen already.

Electric Wizard, Time to DieElectric Wizard - Time to DieThese awesome British stoner-doom magicians have announced that their new album will be called Time to Die… but, sadly, they have yet to announce a release date. We do know that it will come out via Spinefarm, so maybe start bombarding Jonas Nachsin with pesky e-mails and we’ll get some word on when to expect this motherfucker.

Described as “a 24 song wrecking ball of hardcore- punk/thrash fury,” this Relapse debut from Iron Reagan will hit physical and digital shelves on September 16. Interestingly enough, that appears to be former New York City mayor/total douche chill Rudy Giuliani on the cover, and not the band’s ever-forgetful namesake. Perhaps because the album is coming out right after the thirteenth anniversary of 9/11? I may be reading too much into that. ANYWAY, this should be great! Get stoked.

I’m sure we’ll have plenty of more opportunities to discuss these three releases between now and their respective releases. Stay tuned…
