Watch this Video of Decrepit Birth’s Drummer Covering… Blink 182?!

Decrepit Birth drummer Samus Paulicelli has been killing it with his “one camera, one take, no bullshit” drum playthrough videos of late. There’s the video of Samus covering metallized versions of the music from the classic SNES game Turtles in Time, and this straight drum playthrough of Dream Theater’s “Dance of Eternity,” widely regarded as one of the most difficult drum songs ever recorded. And there are a couple of vids of Samus jamming Decrepit Birth songs with the rest of the band, both with live audio.

And then there’s this: Samus covering Blink 182’s “First Date.”

We’re not certain what inspired this most odd song choice, but we can only conjecture that Samus was a Blink fan back in the day and has chosen to expose his less metal side to the masses. In the video description he simply offers this, which might explain it all: “Why the fuck not? :)”

Not for nothing, watching this video makes it apparent that “First Date” isn’t as easy to play as one might think: sure, there’s nothing crazy technical, but some of that quick right hand work is pretty slick. Although it’s kind of hilarious to be hearing a simple pop-punk song while looking at a massive metal kit most of which isn’t even being used.
