Unearth Unearth “The Swarm”

There’s no delicate way to put this, so I’m going to put it indelicately: if there was a New Wave of American Heavy Metal deathpool, the odds on Unearth throwing in the towel next would probably be pretty high. I’m just saying they’re at roughly the same level as Shadows Fall, God Forbid, and Chimaira — I’m not saying they’re going to break-up or even that I want them to break-up.

On the contrary, I’m an Unearth fan, and I hope they stay together until they die or I do (whichever comes first)! And hearing their new single, “The Swarm,” only reminds me of this fact.  The band isn’t exactly breaking new ground or anything — I doubt this will sell anyone who doesn’t already like Unearth on the band’s talent — but these dudes haven’t forgotten how to write a mosh-worthy anthem, and I really appreciate their playing up the neo-classical elements of their music. I guess what I’m getting at is this: it’s always nice to hear a metal band that can actually write a song.

Check out “The Swarm” below, courtesy of Revolver. It will appear on Unearth’s Watchers of Rule, which comes out October 28 on eOne. Pre-orders are available here.
