White Arms of Athena are “On the Edge” of a Breakthrough
White Arms of Athena released another new song yesterday called “On the Edge,” — following “Heavy Sleep” last month — and it continues in the vein that the band established with the first single, a complete change in sound from their 2011 debut album Astrodrama.
It’s kinda crazy how quickly and thoroughly these guys changed it up. Yeah, it’s been a full three years since Astrodrama came out, but still: one day they were BTBAM-core, and now boom, they’re something completely different! If you were to tell me the band was made up of entirely different members now — or that this music was written by some other band entirely — I’d believe it.
I actually think this change is for the better. In 2011 bands who heavily cited BTBAM as an influence were everywhere, and it was difficult for White Arms to separate themselves from the pack. This sound, on the contrary, is unique. And I really like the new stuff I’ve heard so far. Kurt Ballou absolutely nailed it on the production and mixing.
Listen to “On the Edge” below. The self-titled White Arms of Athena comes out on December 2nd via Prosthetic. Pre-order here.
