Although we still have to wait for Bill S. Preston, ESQ and Ted Theodore Logan to return the silver screen, the characters are, at last, coming back for more adventures… albeit in comic book form.

On Monday, BOOM! Studios sent out a press release containing nothing but the following image (via Topless Robot):billtedcomicWhich everyone figured out pretty quickly meant that the publisher was working on a Bill & Ted title.

Now Metal Injection reports that Nerdist has some more images from and details about the six-issue series, Bill & Ted’s Most Triumphant Return:

“Following the time-traveling historic epic of Excellent Adventure and the turbulent life and death of Bogus Journey, Bill and Ted must now fulfill their destiny as the inspiration for galactic harmony! How can someone hate the Wyld Stallyns as much as the evil Chuck De Nomolos? With the power of time travel, Bill and Ted set their sights on turning a young 27th-century Nomolos’ non-non-heinous attitude into something most outstanding and metal! Featuring a main story by Brian Lynch (Angel, the upcoming Minions movie) and Jerry Gaylord (Loki: Ragnarok and Roll), and a backup story by Ryan North (Adventure Time) and Ian McGinty (Bravest Warriors).”

And here’s some art, which is quite rad:

Promising though this looks, I am — SHOCKER!!! — not especially optimistic about its chances of being good. I’ve gotten really excited about film universes I enjoy being continued in comic book form before (e.g., SerenityFreddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash, etc.), and the results are usually disappointing. For some reason, the industry has gotten really good at adapting comics into movies, but still don’t seem to have cracked how to do it other way ’round.

But I’m not gonna lie: I am definitely buying the first issue of this series to give it a shot. So the creators will have at least thirty-two pages to impress me.

The series launches in March. Get more details here.
