Nick Menza is the One Former Member of Megadeth Who Would Actually Return to the Band

menza mustaine ellefsonBecause Dave Mustaine is not exactly the World’s #1 Boss, none of the roughly two-gabtrilljion musicians who have ever been employed by Megadeth are interested in returning. Well, almost none of them — Nick Menza, considered by many to be the “definitive” Megadeth drummer, recently posted the below message on his Facebook page:

“Like i have said in the past. I don’t rule out rejoining MEGADETH and the opportunity would be totally cool. I’m open to whatever could possibly happen, That’s up to Dave. Right now I’m focused on writing and demoing songs with Chris Poland and James LoMenzo.”

Poland and LoMenzo, of course, are also former members of Megadeth — but none of these three dudes were ever in the band at the same time. It’s entirely possible they legitimately enjoy working together, but let’s be real: they didn’t all hook up by accident. They know that whatever they release will get attention because of the Megadeth connection. In other words: they’re not opposed to exploiting that connection for personal gain. I don’t think the project has a name yet, but I don’t think anyone ought to be surprised if they end up calling it Minordeth. Remember, Menza’s autobiography, Menzalife, was originally titled Megalife.

My point being: it’s not very surprising to hear that Menza would hop back on the Train of Consequences. The dude would clearly like to play for a Megadeth-sized audience again.  And y’know what? Mustaine would be wise to hire him back. It wouldn’t get him as much goodwill from the fans as if he somehow managing to lure Marty Friedman back (which will never happen), but it would still get people at least a lil’ bit excited, I think. Also, Menza probably comes cheaper than Dave Lombardo.

Would you be stoked to have Menza back in the fold? Would you rather have Lombardo or some other famous drummer take that seat? Do you give zero shits either way? Sound off in the comments section below.
