About six weeks ago, a reader of the MetalSucks new releases round-up Shit That Comes Out Today probably noticed our mini-rave about a little-heralded record titled Earth Ground. An oddly hallucinatory epic of ambient black metal, it is authored by the band Thaw and plays like a catchy metal album that slipped into a chasm of black, ice, and bones, where time and matter bends, and where a listener is beset by yet barricaded from the album’s essence like that scene in Interstellar. Still, Earth Ground is reverent of music’s capacity for neatness, for pleasure — it just doesn’t seem that way at first. Shit is awesome!

For fans of Thaw’s late-year gem, the next step might be to look around expectantly for a new release from fellow Polish black metallers Outré. See, Thaw and Outré teamed for an awesome 2013 split album and kinda fit neatly in the mind as each other’s only equal, so it’s a natural thought. And the good news is that Outré’s upcoming album Ghost Chants is set for release in Spring. It may have arrived with Earth Ground if not for a vital line-up change. First new jam below!

Outré’s debut album Ghost Chants is out this Spring via Godz Ov War/Third Eye Temple/Essential Purification.
