R.I.P. Metal Maniacs Founder Katherine Ludwig
For nearly two decades Metal Maniacs was the only magazine metalheads could turn to for coverage of the genre’s more extreme corners. Maniacs persevered — thrived, even — through the metal doldrums of the ’90s, when true metal was as far from the mainstream as could be.
So it’s with very heavy hearts that we report the untimely passing of founding editor Katherine Ludwig, who lost her battle with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma late last week. We never met Katherine — Metal Maniacs shut down for good when MetalSucks was in its infancy, and Katherine was no longer involved during those final two years — but Metal Maniacs was extremely important to a whole lot of people (including us), its legacy is long-lasting, and it should go without saying that it hits incredibly close to home any time a fellow metal scribe leaves this world.
R.I.P. Katherine, and best to her family and friends from everyone at MetalSucks.
