Video: Martua Vocalist Proposes On-Stage at Napalm Death Show

napalm loveMetal fans may disagree about almost everything, but here’s an assertion on which I’m sure we can all see eye to eye: grindcore is the most romantic of all metal subgenres. From the dulcet tones of Brutal Truth’s Need to Control to Pig Destroyer’s Prowler in the Yard, which Gore Vidal once called “The most poetic examination of unrequited love ever put on record,” no genre quite captures the sweet, sweet ache of being hit by Cupid’s arrow the way grind does.

So it’s kind of amazing that it took someone so long to think of this, but: last week, Maruta vocalist Mitchell Luna proposed to his beloved on-stage at a Napalm Death show. It’s not the first time two metal fans have become betrothed at a concert (see: Fear FactoryMachine Head, Avenged Sevenfold, and Korn), but it is the most tender.

Watch video of the event below. My favorite part comes at the end, when Napalm Death vocalist Barney Greenway declares, “Well the traditional institute of marriage is a fucking sham, but good luck to them all the same!” Oh, Barney, you big softy!!!
