Not Quite Metal?

Cynic’s Paul Masvidal Launches New Band Onward With Love with Amy Correia

Onward With LoveHanging on the wall right above my desk I’ve got a framed, foil-print poster from the inaugural Metal Suckfest autographed by Cynic, who headlined the fest’s closing night. One signature most folks probably wouldn’t recognize is that of Amy Correia, who lent her vocals to both Traced in Air and Carbon-Based Anatomy, and who joined Cynic on stage that night. To say the performance was seductive would be the understatement of the century: it was positively mesmerizing.

So when The PRP reported yesterday that Cynic mastermind Paul Masvidal would be teaming up with Correia for a new project called Onward With Love (OwL) I got all sorts of excited. Thankfully the collaboration doesn’t disappoint in the slightest. It’s got nothing to do with metal, so if you’re looking for something more like Cynic… then just go listen to Cynic… but the guitar work is distinctively Paul Masvidal, and his voice provides a subtle complement to Correia’s haunting leads. I’m just loving “Kali in My Arms,” on which Cynic drummer Sean Reinert and bassist Sean Malone both guest. So, when’s the album coming out?
