Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin, and Jerry Cantrell Teach You “How to Be a Man”

duff and gerry and izzy and duffFormer Guns N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan has a new book coming out called How to Be a Man, and with that book comes a new three-song EP of the same name, and on that three-song EP of the same name is a song of the same same name, and Rolling Stone has now debuted that song for our listening pleasure.

What makes the song interesting for people my age, though, are the guest spots from McKagan’s old GN’R bandmate, the inscrutable Izzy Stradlin, and Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell. If you were still a virgin in 1994, this woulda been, like, a dream come true.

Unfortunately, the song doesn’t live up to those adolescent expectations. I mean, it’s a perfectly pleasant little ditty, but it’s also incredibly slight. There was almost no point to having Stradlin and Cantrell on the thing.  Other than that, y’know. I just wrote about the song.

(Oh, also, Roy Mayorga plays drums on the track. But his name was left outta RT‘s headline. Can you blame ’em?)

Stream “What it Takes to Be a Man” below. The book and the EP both come out May 12.
