Jerry Cantrell and Duff McKagan

These are interesting times Duff McKagan from Duff McKagan’s Loaded featuring Duff McKagan: a couple of weeks ago, he had the honor of playing Faith No More’s gimp live onstage, and now, apparently, he’s writing the official biography of Alice in Chains. From a recent interview (via Blabbermouth):

“Just last week, I talked to Sean [Kinney, Alice in Chains drummer]. Friday night, we talked at length. Like, ‘If you want me to do it, now’s the time, ’cause I’m done with this book. I’ll have this summer that I can start on it, you guys are working on music, you can put your record out, put the book out…’ Like, make it a whole thing. I’m a proponent of that band, I think it’s just a victorious story.”

This is not surprising insofar as McKagan goes way back with Alice in Chains, and has already authored two books. This is surprising insofar as no one has ever used the phrase “author Duff McKagan” in the history of ever.

In fact, the funniest part of this to me is McKagan claiming to have told Kinney “If you want me to do it, now’s the time,” as though Alice in Chains might have trouble finding any number of other writers to take on the task.

Still, this is probably a smart move: I’m sure it will help Alice in Chains sell a few extra books to GN’R fanatics and/or people who are curious as to whether or not McKagan does a good job with the assignment.

But it would be interesting if this became a trend. What other rockstars would you like to see write biographies of different rockstars? Personally, my vote would be for The Story of Megadeth as told to Clown from Slipknot, because between the fact that Dave Mustaine rarely says anything that makes sense and Clown never says anything that makes sense as a rule, we’d get a pretty interesting read, no?
