Meanwhile, Dying Fetus are the Talk of the Netherlands

It’s easy for us in metal to get cynical and desensitized by all of the morbid, obscene shit we see on a daily basis. So something like this is a good reminder of what bizarre degenerates we are.

Dying Fetus are taking a lot of flak from Dutch gynecologist Bertho Nieboer. The band’s name is on the posters for the upcoming Fortarock Festival, and Nieboer believes pregnant women should not have to have the idea of a dying fetus put in their head. You can read about it here.

Nieboer told Der Gelderlander, the biggest paper in the Netherlands, the following:

The posters hang among others around the hospital. If someone like a child is lost, it can be very intense to see so large a band name. A child’s loss is very significant.

It’s funny, because I’ve heard the name ‘Dying Fetus’ so many times for so long that I cease to even think about fetuses anymore when I discuss the band. If anything, I think about mosh pits where most of the dudes are in athletic shorts. Then again, I’m not a pregnant woman or someone who ever lost a baby, so maybe my opinion goes into the Blithering Cretin pile.

Robert Korstanje, a representative for the festival, countered:

I understand the point of Nieboer, but the band name is little down the poster…The band has been around a while and has little to do with dying fetuses.

Korstanje makes a good point: the name is pretty far down the poster (shown above), and not very large. You’d have to really be looking at the line-up to notice it, and I doubt any pregnant woman is going to be all, “Oh, fuck yeah, Venom…a nd Clutch! Man, I haven’t seen them in–DYING FETUS?! NOOOO! NOT MY PRECIOUS FETUS!“
