New Video Shows the Moment Gunfire Erupted at Eagles of Death Metal Concert in Paris

If you’re going to kvetch that Eagles of Death Metal aren’t a metal band, or we’re taking advantage of tragedy for clicks, or if you’re going to lob any number of racial epithets at whoever will read your comments, please take your opinions elsewhere.

If you’re as shaken by this incident as we are — because it effects fans of live music everywhere and could’ve been ANY ONE OF US at any of the shows we attend week in and week out — you’re probably still hungry to learn as much as possible. I’m always doubtful that any kind of meaningful discourse can take place around such a controversial incident, but here’s to hoping that we can all remain civil as details about the event, and accounts from people who were in attendance, continue to be revealed.

A fan-filmed video of the moments gunfire first erupted inside the Bataclan has finally surfaced. It’s crazy that we live in an era where everything is recorded by someone, and yet here we are — it almost seemed inevitable that video like this would eventually make its way out.

The clip was filmed by graphic designer Sebastien Snow and posted to his Instagram account. It’s only 15 seconds long (per Instagram), but gunfire can be heard prominently and two of the band members can be seen starting to flee the stage once they realize what’s happening. DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO if you’re sensitive to violence (although no actual violence is pictured — just gunshots heard — the knowledge of what happens next makes this scene terrifying anyway).
