The reason people love a good mash-up so much is, at least in part, because it’s a magic trick, fitting together two or more pieces of music that we wouldn’t normally think to meld. At their best, these mash-ups end up being almost like great new songs unto themselves.

But has a mash-up ever been… gulp… moving before? Listen to “Smells Like Adele,” DJ Cummerbund‘s mash-up of Adele’s “Hello,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Alice in Chains’ “Would?”, and Stone Temple Pilots’ “Sex Type Thing,” and you could be forgiven for getting a little misty-eyed.
