Unsigned and Unholy: Grey Season, Among Gods, Brutai

0

Grey Season are on the small German independent label Noizgate, but we’ll give them a mulligan here. If you like big, burly stoneresque riffs used to construct grandiose prog epics, look no further. Stream Grey Season’s latest album Invidia below.

Plenty of bands have given death metal and doom the crossover treatment, but none have done it quite the way Among Gods do. Sometimes they’re on the straight doom tip, sometimes they’re on the straight DM tip, and often they mix both at the same time — all within one song. Check out their latest single “Ghost Empire” below:

The British band Brutai, whose members hail from London and Reading, might be labeled as hard rock on first listen. But there’s a distinctly metallic, vaguely Swedish style to their riffing that gives the band a harder and more complex edge than what you’re accustomed to hearing from “hard rock” bands. The songwriting is super-tight, also; think “Soilwork Lite” and you’re pretty close. The band’s debut album will be out in May.
