Let’s All Get “Besieged” by This New Gorguts Track

Gorguts’ forthcoming EP Pleiades’ Dust consists of just one 33-minute song, an ambitious undertaking to say the least (to learn more about said undertaking, be sure to watch the mini-documentary put together by MS contributor Max Frank). A lone half-hour long track doesn’t exactly fit into the modern formula of releasing a few singles online before the album comes out, but the band’s been chopping it up into digestible sections that correspond to movements of the overall piece for fans of Canadian’s finest tech-death export to enjoy.

Today we get “Besieged,” and a few weeks back the band released “Wandering Times,” together comprising more than a third of the EP. Not that I had any doubt in mind as to whether new Gorguts would be great — Colored Sands was one of the very best metal albums of 2013, after all — but I’ve now got full faith that Pleiades’ Dust is going to be a monster. It’s skronky, technical, avant-garde death metal at its finest, and I cannot WAIT to spark one up, put my headphones on and ride the subway while spacing out to this thing.

Pleiades’ Dust comces out on May 13 via Season of Mist. Pre-order it here. And don’t forget to check out that video about the making of the EP I mentioned earlier.
