Climb up “Lung Mountain” with Boss Keloid (It’s a Secret Place with Lots of Weed and Sludge Riffs… You’ll Dig It)

0

Either Boss Keloid have changed considerably since I covered them in our Unsigned and Unholy column in 2013 or I was being lazy and reductive that particular day.

Not that “Coalesce-meets-Clutch,” as I described them previously, is wildly inaccurate — there are certainly some blues-y Clutch vibes here, and an at-times skronky and unsettling sense of melody — but that account fails to acknowledge the UK outfit’s disposition towards dark, murky sludge, a very important element of the sound they’re peddling on new album Herb Your Enthusiasm.

As case in point, I present you with Boss Keloid’s new banger “Lung Mountain” in music video form. Lung Mountain sounds like a place Brent Hinds would go to trip on shrooms with some of his best buds (can I come?), and fortunately the song — and video — play into that imagery with big, burly sludge riffs, psychedelic vocal wailing and trippy imagery. Really, it’s everything I want out of a psychy sludge track, so… good job, chaps! Jon Davis of Conan lends his guest vocals to this track as well.

Herb Your Enthusiasm is out now via BlackBow Records. Order it here.
