Is Ozzy Osbourne’s Retirement Finally at Hand?

One of the (many, many, MANY) reasons metal fans view Sharon Osbourne through such suspicious eyes is because of the rumors that she won’t let Ozzy retire for monetary reasons. In fact, one of the first thoughts I had when I heard Metal’s First Couple may be splitting up was, “Oh, I wonder if this means Ozzy can finally throw in the towel?”

Well, it looks like I’m not the only one who had that thought… in fact, it seems to have occurred to Sharon Osbourne, who tells Rolling Stone:

“We’ll continue until Ozzy finishes, and Ozzy won’t be long behind them when he calls it a day,” [Osbourne] told RS, still clearly guiding her husband’s trajectory, as she has since the the beginning of the 1980s.

“It’s not going to be within the next year, but it’s coming up,” she said. “I don’t want Ozzy singing ‘Crazy Train’ at 75. I think it’s best you go out before you hit that 70 and go out on top.”

I’m not sure what makes singing “Crazy Train” at 75 any more ridiculous than singing “Crazy Train” at 65, especially since Ozzy hasn’t really been able to sing since he was about 45. Maybe Sharon assumes Ozzy won’t make it to 75 (he’s 67 now). Maybe Sharon really does think that Ozzy is going out on top so long as he retires before 70, instead of retiring before 50. In any case, I’d feel an odd sense of relief if Ozzy finally called it quits. It’s like having a sick family member: you don’t want them to die, but when they do, you’re like, “PHEW! At least their suffering is over.” Y’know?
