Ghoul are “Ghoulunatics”

Holy Hanneman, how hot is the cover art for the new Ghoul album, Dungeon Bastards? It was designed by Heavy Hand Illustration‘s Mark W. Richards, who has done a lot of great work for a lot of great bands in the past (in addition to show posters and merch for bands like Pig Destroyer, The Black Dahlia Murder, Aborted, and Wormed, he designed Revocation’s logo), but today he really does deserve all the beers. So much great detail! The more time I spend it with it, the more I appreciate it. I’m not sure if this was deliberate or not, but it’s also kind of a cool thematic ode to Iron Maiden’s album cover for The Number of the Beast.

Also rad: “Ghoulunatics,” the first single from the album. From the best Metallica riff that won’t be on the new Metallica album to the bang snap drums to the exotic guitar leads to the lyrical celebration of miscreants, everything about the song rages. Shit feels like being strapped into a flaming car and sent full speed at a brick wall.

Stream “Ghoulunatics” below. Dungeon Bastards comes out July 29 on Tankcrimes. For this week only, CD pre-orders are just $6.66. You can also pre-order it here (red vinyl), here (splatter vinyl), or here (digital). The band will be on tour with Carcass, Crowbar, and Night Demon starting July 16; get dates here.
