Chino Moreno to Play Acoustic Set Inside of Icelandic Volcano

0

It appears that the new ploy to remain relevant in heavy music is to play sets in the most convoluted and inhospitable places possible. Metallica started it by playing Antarctica, which led to bands like The Defiled playing on an iceberg and Bullet For My Valentine playing an air-to-sea-to-land show.

Now, its Deftones frontman Chino Moreno’s turn. Chino will apparently play an acoustic set for twenty lucky fans 400 feet underground inside of Iceland’s Thrihnukagigur volcano this Friday, as part of Iceland’s Secret Solstice festival. The event is historic, in that no musician has ever been stupid enough to play played inside of the volcano before.

To be fair, there is a kind of Metalocalypse-esque coolness to doing something this epic and seemingly dangerous, though geologists are quick to note that the last time ol’ Thrihny erupted was approximately 4000 years ago. But if Metalocalypse has taught us anything, it’s that rock music plus active volcanos results in being hideous burned:

That said, we’ll be interested to hear how the performance turns out. Keep up with Secret Solstice here; they might even live-stream it. And if you’re one of the twenty fans who gets to see the show, feel free to write us and let us know how it goes.
