Idol Listening: SikTh Bassist James Leach’s Songs to Take Hallucinogens To

0

We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: if there were no SikTh, there’d be no Periphery, Monuments, TesseracT, Vildjharta, The Contortionist, Veil of Maya, Volumes, Uneven Structure, no other modern young progmetal band. SikTh were wwwwaaaayyyy out ahead of the pack, foretelling one of the dominant movements in metal today as early as 2003, when they released their debut full-length, The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out Wait for Something Wild. They then topped that album with 2006’s Death of a Dead Day, disbanded while the rest of the world ran to catch up with them, and then reformed, ultimately releasing last year’s excellent Opacities.

Now these British envelope pushers are finally touring the U.S. for the first time, alongside Chon and two bands  undoubtedly influenced — Toothgrinder and the aforementioned Periphery (who are headlining the trek). This is a joyous occasion for those of us who have been listening to the band for a decade or longer without ever getting to see them… hell, this is a joyous occasion for any lover of top-notch prog metal!

To celebrate, we recently asked SikTh to make us a killer playlist with a theme of their choosing. Bassist James Leach responded with fifteen songs that he rightfully asserts go GREAT with hallucinogens. Get right and then check out his sweet playlist below! Remaining dates on SikTh’s tour with Periphery, Toothgrinder, and Chon are at the bottom of this post. Don’t miss ’em!!!
