Video: Phil Anselmo Returns to the Stage as Frontman of Eyehategod

It’s been most of a year since Phil Anselmo ruined Dimebash and potentially his legacy by throwing a Heil Hitler salute and screaming, “White Power!” at a crowd. But Friday night saw Anselmo return to the stage for the first time since that incident, doing vocals for NOLA sludge legends Eyehategod in lieu of frontman Mike Williams who is dealing with some health issues. Is Phil forgiven for his transgressions? The fan reaction in these videos seems to suggest so, but I don’t know. Obviously this issue differs from one fan to another, but I feel like I’m still wary of the dude. That he subscribed to a pro-white YouTube channel back in June doesn’t sit well with me. That said, the dude has also offered multiple apologies on the matter, and waited a long time before performing again. Hopefully, at the very least, he’s sober, which would be a big step in the right direction for him.
