Listen to Asking Alexandria Frontman Danny Worsnop’s New Country Song “Anyone But Me”

I’m as perplexed as anyone by Danny Worsnop’s recent foray into full-on country music. The timing of his first solo album release is certainly conspicuous given his recent reunion with Asking Alexandria, but one doesn’t simply write a friggin’ country album overnight; clearly this is something he’s been wanting to do for some time. Has the British singer always had a hard-on for American country tunes? Or a deep-held desire to appear on-camera in a banana hammock?

In any case, I suppose Worsnop’s got a decent shot at making a go of it as a country singer. I can’t imagine many of Asking Alexandria’s fans will care a whole lot but, on their own, the two songs we’ve heard from his forthcoming album are primo radio fodder: lyrics that are cheesy, simple, to the point and chock full of Americana, and music that’s, ya know, country. If I heard “Anyone But Me” on the radio next time I’m driving in a rental car through Real America, I probably wouldn’t think twice about it. Worsnop’s not terrible at this whole country thing.

Check it out below, and listen to the considerably more upbeat song — and aforementioned banana-hammock featuring video — “Mexico” as well.

The Long Road Home comes out February 17 on the same label that released Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious, Slaughter of the Soul, and Nihility.
