Tool Announce Boston Show; More Tour Dates Imminent?

0

When Governor’s Ball announced that Tool would headline the 2017 incarnation of their festival in NYC this coming June, we speculated… well, no, the very first thing we did was lose our fucking shit, because Tool haven’t played NYC proper in 15 (!) years, or anywhere nearby in quite a few. But THEN we got to speculating about whether it might mean Tool had more dates in the works, because we care about all you folk in Philadelphia, Chicago, Texas, Nebraska, and everywhere else too. We’re bigly terrific like that. Actually, we just love clicks.

And HEY! Tool have just been revealed as the headliners of Boston Calling, a three-day festival taking place May 26-28 (Memorial Day Weekend) in Boston (duh) at the Harvard Athletic Complex. Other acts announced so far include Mumford & Sons, Chance the Rapper, Bon Iver, The XX, Major Lazer, Weezer and The 1975, so this is definitely shaping up to another of those multi-faceted fests, not a metal one like Chicago Open Air, Rock on the Range, etc. Which makes sense, given Tool’s wide fanbase and rise to fame as ’90s radio rock mainstays.

Could more summer festival appearances be in the works for Tool? The dollars a festival can pay out are always top-notch because destination fests aren’t relying solely on ticket sales to recoup; hot dogs, beer, weird hippie necklaces and fancy espresso all go into that pot. And Tool have certainly reached the point in their career where they can cherry-pick a few festivals here and there, following the money.

They may also plan a couple of dates in between, since the two shows announced are a week apart. Or these festival appearances could be part of an extended run.

We shall see! We’ll keep you posted.
