Watch: Dimmu Borgir Perform Live with Near 100-Piece Orchestra

0

2017 is shaping up to be a big year for Dimmu Borgir, who haven’t released anything since Abrahadabra in 2010: they’ve announced they’ll release a live DVD, Forces of the Northern Night, in April, while also promising that “this is not the only gem that the year 2017 holds for Dimmu Borgir,” implying a new album of original material is on the way.

The band is currently busy recording that album — including sessions with the Schola Cantorum choir — and with the April release of the DVD approaching, they’ve now unveiled a live clip from the set.

Forces of the Northern Night will feature two separate Dimmu performances: a concert in Oslo, Norway with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and a choir, and their entire 2012 performance at Wacken Open Air with the Czech National Symphonic Orchestra (with almost 100 musicians on stage). Today we get “Mourning Palace” from the latter, and… whew! It’s intense. It’s the kind of epic performance I hope to witness live some day, but for now this set will have to do.

Watch “Mourning Palace” below.
