Rachel Maddow Apologizes for Slayer “Tim” Araya Gaffe

0

Following President Trump’s infamous reference to “American carnage” in his inaugural address on January 20th, liberal MSNBC commentator Rachel Maddow aired a fun segment goofing on Trump’s comments in which she referenced Slayer, Megadeth, and Testament’s 2010 American Carnage Tour. It wasn’t the first time she’s mentioned metal on the show: she mentioned Floridian death metal bands like Deicide, Obituary, and Morbid Angel in 2010 and again in 2012. She also had Lars Ulrich on as a guest in 2009, and more recently called Metallica’s Hardwired… to Self-Destruct “the new perfect soundtrack for 2016.”

There was only one problem with the most recent segment: Maddow referred to Slayer’s frontman as Tim Araya which, of course, caused an uproar in the metal community.

But now liberal TV’s most metal-friendly personality has offered up an apology, thank goodness! Because we aren’t quite sure WHAT we’d do if that unforgivable gaffe went down in history as the final note on the matter, Maddow offered up her sorries on-air while plugging an upcoming special (which aired later that same night) looking back at Trump’s first month in office. What’s more, she somehow obtained a t-shirt from the 2010 American Carnage tour and pledged to wear it on air (whether she ended up doing so or not, we’re not sure!). Joking aside, it’s actually quite cool that Maddow took the time not only to apologize for her mistake, but to devote a whole clip to it.

“For more than one month now, I have wallowed in shame over a mistake that I made on inauguration day,” begins the segment. Watch below.
